Turner Baker has been lining chimneys and flues for more than 15 years. Within that time, we have worked on chimneys and flues in tiny terraced houses and huge stately homes.
Our approach to the projects that we work on is always the same: to ensure that your fireplace and chimney are completely safe to use.
If you would like our team to visit your property and survey your chimney or flue then please get in touch. We will send one of our engineers out who will be able to carry out a full visual inspection and will inform you of what needs to be done. We will also provide a comprehensive written quote for any further tests or work that may be required for your chimney liner or flue.
Turner Baker don’t believe in a one size fits all approach, as chimneys come in all shapes and sizes. Most properties, especially older ones have their own little quirks that need to be taken into consideration. From stainless-steel flue liners to pumice and flexible resin liners, there are a range of liners available.
When using Turner Baker for chimney liner installations, minimal disruption to your property is our priority.
“Your team under Bill’s cheerful guidance completed a great job today, turning up bang on time and remained in good spirits throughout the day despite the rather challenging weather. They are a credit to Turner Baker; please pass on my thanks to them again. I’m very pleased with their work, everything has been cleared up and left tidy” Mr Ford
There is nothing better than a cosy warm fire on a cold winters evening. But there’s also nothing worse than a fire that just won’t work properly. It may not give out enough heat or frighteningly, it may fill your house with smoke which could contain potentially dangerous chemicals.
What are the benefits of a chimney liner?
Reason one – To comply with current laws. If you are building a new property or home with a chimney then it must be lined to ensure compliance with Document J of current Building Regulations.
Reason two – Safety. For older properties and buildings there are multiple safety benefits to be gained from having a chimney lined.
The most important thing to remember is that the smoke generated from your open fire, multi fuel stove or wood burner needs to exit via the chimney flue as quickly and smoothly as possible. When a chimney is constructed from brick, the brick could degrade and crumble in time and it is likely that the mortar in between the bricks will degrade as well.
If there are signs of degradations to the internal brickwork it may mean that the chimney will have to be lined. This is because the flue can leak smoke into another room in the property whereas smoke will travel most efficiently through a smooth flue. Any lumps and bumps caused by the uneven bricks on the way up through the flue will slow down the flow of the smoke and the smoke will cool and leave deposits on the side of the flue. This can be very dangerous. A build up can rapidly occur and increase the risk of a chimney fire.
The internal condition of your chimney may look normal at this current moment, but if you are planning to install a fire or stove and use it frequently then this is likely to speed up the degradation of the brickwork on the inside of the chimney due to the regular heating and cooling of the bricks whilst the fire or stove is being used.
If you are unsure regarding the condition of your chimney and whether it’s safe to use, we always recommend getting advice from a local expert in Cheltenham.
