What is FuranFlex?

FURANFLEX is an innovative flue lining system that has been used successfully in the UK for over 10 years and is available in more than 27 countries worldwide.

It is available in two forms, which are either suitable for gas and oil applications or solid fuel. Furanflex is a glass fibre reinforced thermosetting resin lining system, which is as strong as steel when set, but has much better corrosion resistance and is heat resistant to more than 450 °C.

A FuranFlex liner consists of three layers which, when delivered to site, looks like a soft flexible tube folded into a compact pack.

How is Furanflex installed?

The Furanflex liner comes deflated and has to be inserted into the flue before being inflated to the final flue size.  This process is carried out by trained installers using a steam generator.   Once hardened the FuranFlex liner is stronger than a stainless steel liner and provides a perfect gas tight lining that is resistant to heat and high temperatures.

The inflated liner is only 4 mm thick, has no joints and is available in diameters from 50mm to over 1000mm. When installed, it follows the exact path of the existing flue or duct, maximising the diameter for optimum flue efficiency.  A Furanflex liner will mould itself to the shape of the chimney which makes it an obvious choice for chimneys that aren’t straight.   This gives Furanflex an advantage over other chimney lining systems which are a set shape and may reduce the size of the flue and compromise it’s performance.  Furanflex is supplied in a single piece cut to whatever length is required of up to 100 metres.

The installation process for FuranFlex liners is very clean and non intrusive with most installations completed in one day.

Different types of Furanflex liners

A FuranFlex liner carries a manufacturer’s 20 year guarantee and comes in two different formats.  The Furanflex Black liner has been tested to 400°c.  and is suitable for decorative fuel effect type gas fires, gas and oil heating boilers – especially high efficiency and condensing applications, ductwork, pipes and re-sleeving applications.

The Furanflex RWV has been tested to 1000°c and is suitable for all solid fuel appliances from biomass boilers to open fires.

Is my flue and application suitable for FuranFlex?

The most common answer to this question is yes.  A site visit is required, and usually a CCTV inspection of the flue will need to be carried out to confirm this. Turner Baker Ltd are trained and certified to install FuranFlex to enable us to supply you with a high quality and durable flue solution. If you would like an engineer to visit and assess your situation or if you’d like further information please call us on (01432) 839123.
